Sustainability & Operational Excellence Challenge 2017
Finalists for the EMPEA Institute’s second annual Sustainability & Operational Excellence Challenge have been selected. Our three finalists have been chosen by our judges as one of the fund managers with most compelling case of having created value in an emerging markets portfolio company through active management while also delivering positive externalities to the communities in which the company operates.
Our three finalists include:
Emerging Capital Partners, for its management of Eranove, a leading African utility platform with operations in power generation, transmission, and distribution, as well as water production and distribution in West Africa. Eranove currently manages over 1,247 MW of electricity generation capacity and produces approximately 423 million cubic meters of water annual while distributing both electricity and to over 1.6 million customers.
Aspada Investments, for its management of EM3 AgriServices, India’s first provider of farm services on a pay-per-use basis, or, what many consider to be the “Uber of farm machinery” in India. Services on the platform are provided for the entire farm cultivation cycle including land development, land preparation, seeding, sowing, plating, crop care, harvesting and post-harvest field management.
The winner of the Challenge will be determined by a majority vote of industry stakeholders attending the EMPEA/FT Sustainable Investing in Emerging Markets leadership summit on 17 October 2017 in London. The audience members will vote for the firm that they believe best exemplifies outstanding sustainable impact from an operational, environmental, social and governance perspective following presentations delivered by the Challenge’s finalists.
